The Rio 2025 Book Biennial: A Flagship Cultural Event Serving Community and Territory

From June 12 to 22, 2025, Rio de Janeiro reaffirmed its UNESCO-designated status as World Book Capital by hosting the 22nd Bienal do Livro at Riocentro. Organized and produced by GL events in partnership with the National Syndicate of Publishers (SNEL), this landmark edition exceeded all expectations: 740,000 visitors, 6.8 million books sold, 1,850 authors present, and 1,200 hours of programming.

Beyond the record-breaking numbers, the 2025 Biennial illustrates GL events’ ability to reinvent the cultural experience, mobilize an entire ecosystem, and create long-term impact for the territory. By transforming Riocentro into an immersive "Book Park," the event bridged literature with new uses and audiences, uniting young and old, avid and occasional readers, professionals, and the general public.

Thanks to the thoughtful orchestration of content, space, and experience, GL events turned this gathering into a powerful tool supporting national cultural policies, forging new links between culture, education, and society.

The social impact was considerable: 130,000 students participated in educational programs (+30,000 vs 2023); vouchers were distributed to enrich school libraries; Afro-Brazilian, female, and Indigenous voices were highlighted; and international literary exchanges were fostered. The event demonstrated how a major cultural platform can support an entire industry, drive creativity, expand access to culture, and promote a territory internationally.

For GL events, the 2025 Bienal do Livro exemplifies a unique expertise: crafting tailor-made experiences, bringing together public and private stakeholders, combining innovation, inclusion, and operational excellence, and embedding every project within a sustainable and responsible vision.

This event once again illustrates GL events’ ambition as a global player in cultural affairs, turning events into drivers of economic, social, and cultural development for the benefit of communities and regions.
