GL EVENTS, AN INTEGRATED GROUP OPERATING IN ALL EVENT PROFESSIONS, CALLS FOR COLLECTIVE SOLIDARITY TO SUPPORT COMPANIES INVOLVED IN THE EVENTS SECTOR

During an interview on BFM Business on Friday 6 March, GL events' Chairman expressed the Group's deep concern about the major socio-economic consequences of the COVID 19 epidemic. The cancellations and containment measures decided upon by the public authorities are both understandable and necessary. However, these measures have serious consequences for the entire sector, and in particular for subcontractors.

During the live interview, Olivier Ginon announced the need for concerted solidarity to support subcontractors, suppliers and other players in the event-industry who are significantly affected by the cancellation and/or postponement of events.

This morning, Bruno Le Maire, the French Minister for Economy, also called on large companies to provide smaller businesses with massive support in order to save a sector that the current health crisis could plunge into an even greater crisis.

"The world of events is essential to the economic dynamism of our country, bringing people together to meet and exchange, and the whole sector must work together and remain united to get through this extremely difficult period. At such a time, we must understand our great responsibility to ensure that suppliers and subcontractors receive support, in order to protect jobs and specific areas of expertise."

"We cannot risk the closure of companies that contribute to the excellence of major events and that the entire sector will need as soon as this health crisis is over," said Olivier Ginon, Chairman of the GL events Group.

As a responsible player in the events industry, GL events is mobilising all its effort for the immediate creation of a solidarity fund for suppliers and partners working in the sector. The Group calls on the government, local authorities, Chambers of Commerce, major event organisers, managers of major national exhibition centres, major hotel operators, etc. to support this initiative. Today, the future of the whole sector is at stake. We cannot afford to lose the highly specialised skills and know-how of the industry’s suppliers and subcontractors.
