The trade fair for the food-services sector in Eastern France

Organised and hosted by Strasbourg Evénements, the 18th EGAST fair will take place from 21 to 24 June 2020. The fair will be hosted in both the Convention centre and the Exhibition Centre in Strasbourg.

The égast (Equipment, Gastronomy, Agro-food, Services and Tourism) trade show will bring together more than 350 exhibitors from 8 sectors of activity: tableware, food processing, baking/pastry-making, catering, equipment & materials, hotels, IT & services and trade vehicles.

This year, a special focus will be placed on the hotel business with the creation of "égast hotel", a temporary hotel-restaurant area covering more than 230m² at the fair. This fun, inspirational space will enable visitors to discover the latest culinary trends based on the theme of the 4 elements: air, earth, fire and water. It will place the spotlight on a selection of craftsmen and professionals who are capable of designing and delivering original interior layout and decoration projects.

Prestigious competitions and awards

As a genuine showcase for professionals in the fields of gastronomy, agro-food services and tourism, égast will be hosting 14 awards ceremonies and competitions. Organised in close collaboration with professional trade organisations and corporations, these events will give the participants the chance to demonstrate their expertise and creativity. For 2020, two new competitions have been added to the programme: the French national final of the Trophée Masse (Masse Foie gras award) and the regional qualifying round in the catering category of the Olympiades des métiers (Trade Olympics).

Égast, promoting professional vocations

In addition to the competitions and awards, égast will be organising the "Journée des Écoles" (Schools Day) on Wednesday 24 June, in partnership with the Greater Eastern Region of France and FADAL (Retail food federation of Alsace). This day will give more than 1,000 schoolchildren the chance to watch a French gourmet meal being prepared. The demonstration will be followed by a buffet reception. Its aim is to encourage young people who are trying to decide about their future career to consider the opportunities available in the Café, Hotel and Restaurant sector, and present the related vocational training schemes.

Indeed, this day will also be dedicated to employment and training and will be open to the general public in the Convention Centre. In partnership with the Pôle Emploi (Job Centre) and the "Grand Est" region, égast will organise a forum on the food services and catering professions. The programme includes a job dating session, a round table on "How to prepare your career change" and a conference on "Succeeding in an interview".

Events and conferences devoted to professionals

This biennial event organises a programme of conferences for professionals in the food services sector. The conferences address topics such as trends in gastronomy and the food services industry and implementing a responsible, sustainable development approach in catering and food services.

This year, a mini photo studio will give each butcher or pastry chef the opportunity to have an original photo taken with their team or products. The pictures will be broadcast in real time on social networks. This fun, friendly activity aims to promote the trades, know-how and products of the artisans.

Covering a total of 24,000m² of exhibition space, égast 2020 invites trade visitors to come and enjoy four days of meetings and discussions with their peers.
