with Yuexiu Group
to jointly develop a network of event sites in China. The first phase will consist in managing a 50,000 m2 convention centre in Gangzhou (Canton), targeted for opening in 2019.

With its first-ever staff member having passed the CMP designation, Square-Brussels Meetings Centre embarks on an ambitious journey to become one of the leading convention and event venues with certified meetings professionals, recognized on an international level.

Through the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) program, individuals who are currently employed in meeting management have the opportunity to pursue continuing education, increase their industry involvement, and gain industry-wide recognition. The requirements for certification are based on professional experience and a written examination.

Established in 1985 by the Convention Industry Council (CIC), the CMP credential was developed to increase the proficiency of meeting professionals in any component or sector of the industry, and recognizes individuals who have achieved the industry's highest standard of professionalism.

With a handful of staff members studying to complete the examination, Square Brussels Meetings Centre, as a convention and event venue, is at the forefront of setting standards to the industry. It won’t stop until most of the operational and sales task force is certified.

Ariane Deguelle, Member of the Board of GL events Belgium, the company that manages Square, explains: ‘Industry certification is extremely important at Square. It shows that you care enough about your profession and the community to put the effort into demonstrating that you are what you say. As a venue, we constantly stress the importance of continuing education and want to lead the way in showing we aim at the highest standards possible. It also helps Brussels as a meetings destination to establish credibility on an international level.’

Celine Roosen, Sales Manager, is the first staff member of Square-Brussels Meetings Centre to have successfully pursued the CMP designation. She says: ‘The company proposed that I pursue my CMP to improve my knowledge base and to gain credibility in a competitive market.
Having passed my CMP designation enables me to be recognized ‘officially’ on the international map. Clients, especially English clients, are reassured that I now speak the same language as they do.’

Situated in the heart of the cultural and historic sector of Brussels, near the national and international institutions, Square-Brussels Meetings Centre offers a unique, functional environment for meetings. With 13,000 m2 of dedicated space, the venue can cater to any kind of events. Centrally located, Square accommodates up to 1,200 people, with an additional 2,200 if one counts the auditorium in next-door Bozar. There are also 6,000 hotel rooms in the direct vicinity of the venue.
