GL events Brazil invests in sustainable solutions to Rio +20.
To welcome Rio+20, GL events Brazil anticipated an investment of about $ 1.5 million to dredge the pond and the River Camorim, which are within Riocentro. The convention center also has a sewage treatment plant capable of treating 340m³ of sewage per day.
Official event supplier, the company dredged Riocentro’s river and pond, invested in recycled and biodegradable material and will do waste sorting.
Top Gourmet, catering company of the Group, is the official supplier of food and drinks at Rio+20 and it is using biodegradable material throughout its operation. All plates, cups and cutlery are made from corn. It is expected over 100,000 people for the 11-day event, who will use one million units of cups. Due to the fact they are made from corn, cups, plates and cutlery are biodegradable and do not harm the environment. Using the concept Top Sustainable while serving the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, the company is also responsible for all the garbage division from the Food Court.
GL events is the responsible, in partnership with Premier Events and LPR, to provide all the Rio+20’s temporary structure to serve the infrastructure’s development and installation, besides services for events (bleachers, tents, furniture and decoration, signage, audiovisual, media center, media desks, press tribune, cooling, lighting, simultaneous translation booth and translation).
During Rio+20, it will be used 89,347 meters of recycled carpet for acoustics and floor covering of pavilions 1, 3, 4 and 5, as well as for tents installed at Riocentro. This corresponds to 9,928 PET plastic bottles that are no longer going to landfills and were reused, because each carpet meter is produced with nine PET plastic bottles.
Another concern was to use environmentally friendly paints and canvases (canvas Discovery-2-440 GSM printed in ink Eco Solvent Ink and Latex Tech brand HP) for producing all Rio+20 visual communication, such as panels, wall units, banners, signage advertising and merchandising. After the event, all materials will be donated to the NGO Doe Seu Lixo that will recycle it to make purses, bags, among other products.
All waste generated from Rio+20 will be recycled. For this, Riocentro, the largest convention center in Latin America, has partnered with a non-governmental organization for the solid waste management during the event.
The NGO Doe Seu Lixo oversees the administrative management of non-recyclable solid waste, organic waste / tailings and contaminated (such as batteries). The operation began on May 28th and will be completed by June 28th.
GL events Brazil mobilized a team of 1,380 people to serve during Rio+20 and to manage sustainable solutions to meet Rio+20 needs as the official supplier to the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.
