GL events, the international event-industry group, has increased its stakes in Eurexpo and Sepelcom, to respectively 47% and 95%. This initiative highlights GL events' commitment to actively participate in the development of Lyon as a major destination for international events.
SHAREHOLDING IN EUREXPO INCREASED TO 47%
The Town Council of Lyon city as well as the General Assembly of the Lyon Chamber of Commerce, have voted for the buy-back by Sepel of the 34.5% stake held by City of Lyon. As a consequence GL events will own 47% of Sepel. The remainder is owned by Lyon Chamber of Commerce. GL events will take over the operational management of Sepel.
Sepel is the operating company of Eurexpo, the European Convention and Exhibition Centre that generates average yearly sales of €24 million according to the calendar of certain events.
Eurexpo is among the top 20 European venues and the third largest in France with 106.000 m² of exhibition space hosting 200 events a year.
GL EVENTS' STAKE IN SEPELCOM RAISED TO 95%
GL events increases its shareholding from 49% to 95% in Sepelcom by the direct acquisition of 46% to Sepel.
Sepelcom, with average annual sales of €27 million, is specialised in organising trade shows for professionals and the general public with such prestigious events as the International Hotel, Catering and Food Trade Exhibition (SIRHA), the International Fair of Lyon, the World Swimming Pool show (Piscine 2006), etc.
THE GREATER LYON REGION CONFIRMS ITS CONFIDENCE IN GL EVENTS
GL events' concession for the management of the Lyon Convention Centre has been renewed for an additional 10 years. As such, Lyon confirms its confidence in the group's ability to support the development of this venue and the new extensions which include notably the 3,000-seat hall.
PROMOTING LYON AS A DESTINATION FOR INTERNATIONAL EVENTS
The Lyon region is ideally located at the crossroads of the three major European event markets: France, Germany and Italy. Through its investments and in partnership with all stakeholders of the Lyon region, GL events intends to actively participate in the development and promotion of this premium destination for international events.
To achieve this goal, GL events will contribute its expertise in managing and marketing major events including more than 230 proprietary or organized trade shows, exhibitions, conventions and events worldwide.
GL events INTERNATIONAL
By the end of 2006, GL events will have participated in many major international projects such as the Doha Asian Games, which are taking place to the 15th of December as well as the early construction for the World Cup of Cricket in the West Indies and the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro.
GL events and the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham UK, have signed an agreement to create a subsidiary which will provide from 2007 exhibition services to organisers and exhibitors. The two groups have agreed to combine their knowledge and experience to capture the top-end of the market for exhibition services. With this agreement GL events has the intention to accelerate its market penetration in the provision of services to the exhibition industry in the UK and to partner with the largest British exhibition centre and one of the top ten in Europe.
With these new developments, GL events in accordance with the objectives announced for 2008, is following its strategy for growth in the sectors of Service provider, Venue manager and Event organiser both in France and internationally.
