GL events, provider of Olympic events since 1992. For the London Olympics, GL events is implementing an industrial and logistic project of unprecedented scale.
From 27 July to 12 August, London will be hosting the 28th summer Olympic Games. They will be followed by the 14th Paralympic Games, from 29 August to 9 September.
GL events, one of the world's leading service providers for major sporting events, is once again actively involved in this prestigious global event. It is one of the largest projects ever undertaken by GL events, in terms of sheer scale, innovation, investment and human resources: GL events is involved in work on 89 event sites, requiring more than 500 people, including sub-contractors, and a project-specific management and organisational structure.
In terms of upstream preparation, the provision of tents and grandstands for the event required one of the most significant design operations that the Group has ever conducted, with around 2000 drawings being produced in barely six months for three design phases, out of a total of six.
At the same time, a huge manufacturing programme was launched to make the 165,000m² of tents and 95,000 grandstand seats, delivered in 2012: for five months, the Group's production companies operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to produce the temporary structures, ranging from single-floor to triple-decker Absolute struc-tures.
This contract has also enabled GL events to reinforce its position in the United Kingdom, which will be hosting other major events in the coming years: the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the Rugby World Cup in 2015…
