GL events, Official Supplier of the temporary grandstand seating for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) has welcomed GL events ExpoNet Pty Ltd as an Official Supplier delivering temporary grandstand seating for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018). 60 000 temporary seats will be installed across thirteen Games venues. This is a major contract of above 10M€ for GL events, which is positioned as a leading local partner.

Australian company with offices based between the Gold Coast and Brisbane, GL events ExpoNet is a joint-venture between GL events and ExpoNet – ExpoNet being one of the largest suppliers in the Australian event industry.
The partnership fulfils the important criteria of having a local background: “With more than 1.5 million spectators expected at the Games, temporary seating will be critical to the successful staging of GC2018”, explains Stirling Hinchliffe, Minister for the Commonwealth Games. “It is another great example of how the Commonwealth Games are delivering economic benefits to Queensland by using local business expertise,” he continued.
Peter Beattie AC, Chairman of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation, said GL events ExpoNet was the only Australian business that submitted a tender for this work with all other bids coming from international firms.
GOLDOC Chief Executive, Mark Peters, said the partnership is “a great opportunity for a local supplier to be a part of a high profile contract, but also to work with and learn from a world leader in temporary event structure.” After which he continued “Temporary seating is a key part of many major sporting events. It will provide greater capacity to venues and improve comfort for the spectators.” Mark Peters also noted that GL events will retrieve the temporary seating at the end of the Commonwealth Games, so they can be used again at other events, thus ensuring the Games will not leave an unnecessary oversupply of underused seats post-event.

Combining expertise with local sub-contractors
The partnership between GL events and ExpoNet will draw on further local expertise through sub-contracting arrangements with numerous Gold Coast based companies. Local company involvement in the delivery of the contract services will range from significant direct subcontracted seating supply to the manufacturing of seating components and also specialist trade and general labour for seating installation, maintenance and removal purposes.
“GC2018 is unique in terms of its size and scope,” Shaun Rae, General Manager of GL events ExpoNet stated, “but our professional team of project managers, designers and logistic experts from both parent organisations bring their experience from successfully delivering events such as the Rio and London Olympics and many other local events.”

GL events, an experienced player in the Australian market
GL events has been present in Australia since the year 2000, when the Group won its first major international contract for the provision of services for the Sydney Olympic Games. Since then, significant projects have been signed by the GL events Group down under. Contracts included the temporary Sydney Exhibition Centre at Glebe Island and  the G20 Leaders’ Summit of 2014 in Brisbane which was delivered in collaboration with ExpoNet.
