GL events, the fully-integrated international provider of event solutions, announced that following a competitive bid it was awarded the management concession for the Brussels Convention Centre. Located at the heart of Europe, this new site completes and strengthens the Group's portfolio of venues for conventions and trade shows.
A NEW VENUE STRATEGICALLY LOCATED AT THE HEART OF EUROPE
The Brussels Palais des Congrès S.A. awarded GL events a 27 year concession for the management of the convention centre beginning on the date of the contract's signature in the 2007 second quarter. This venue is expected to generate annual sales of approximately €15 million over the concession period.
Ideally located in the centre of Brussels with a modular exhibition hall of 4,000 m², 3 auditoriums, 20 conference rooms, a restaurant with a capacity of 300 and a 550 m² reception area dominating the historical centre of the European capital, the site is destined to become a major event venue with an optimal offering of facilities.
Launched in 1958 for the Universal Exhibition, the Brussels Convention Centre has been under renovation since 2003 and is scheduled to reopen on 20 September 2009. The estimated budget for the renovations is €60 million and is assured by the concession grantor, Palais des Congrès S.A.
Management will be assured by an operating company controlled by GL events and FISA, a Belgian organizer of trade fairs (including notably Batibouw, the international building renovation and interior finishings fair) and Palais des Congrès S.A.
LEVERAGING GROWTH FOR THE ENTIRE PORTFOLIO
In line with its strategy of expanding its network of premium destinations, GL events' portfolio now has 21 venues, including prestigious international destinations (such as Paris, Lyon, London, Barcelona, Padua, Budapest, Rio de Janeiro, Shanghai and now Brussels). This portfolio provides total exhibition space of 857.000 m², more than 200 proprietary events and 2.600 events hosted per year.
The addition of the Brussels Palais des Congrès will also strengthen GL events' position with one of the largest organizers of conferences and meetings, the European Commission.
