GL events today announces that it was selected to manage the Toulouse Exhibition Centre under a 20-year concession effective on 1 July 2012. The Group acquired the concession operating company for the Exhibition Centre in 2002 and also manages the Toulouse Pierre Baudis Convention Centre.
The Urban Community of Greater Toulouse has in this way renewed its confidence in GL events to manage and promote its Exhibition Centre in view of the professionalism and ambitiousness of its offering and the international network through which it is deployed. Within the framework of a revamped system of governance, this new management will permit regional governing authorities to define and manage the development strategy for this in the structure, in close collaboration with GL events.
This management covers the current Exhibition Centre and, starting in March 2016, the future Exhibition Centre.
World-renowned international architect, Rem Koolhaas, with his firm "Office for Metropolitan Architecture" will design the new Exhibition Centre, that will be located in the municipalities of Aussonne and Beauzelle. The future installations will be extremely well proportioned with a large 15,000m² multifunction event hall, 40,000m² of indoor exhibition space and an outdoor exhibition area of more than 40,000m².
Through its compact design, functionalities and the integration of sustainable development criteria, this new exhibition centre will represent a new generation infrastructure.
GL events' mission will be to address the goal of regional authorities to establish Toulouse's position as a European capital. With this objective, the Group presented an ambitious development project combining innovative events focusing on the economy of knowledge and research and a reinforced partnership with Greater Toulouse, and in close collaboration with local stakeholders.
The transfer of activities to this exhibition centre will in consequence be accompanied by:
- creating new events, including certain with the support of regional authorities,
- staging of new categories of events (live events, conventions, concerts and performances),
- reinforcing the Exhibition Centre's events and trade fairs.
GL events intends in this way to significantly develop the activity of the Exhibition Centre by contributing in this way to economic benefits for the Toulouse destination.
