Bienal do livro Rio

The literary world in the spotlight.

Over the course of 11 days, Rio de Janeiro will be the world literary capital as the city hosts the Rio Book Fair (Bienal do Livro) organised by Fagga | GL events Exhibitions. This major book fair was first held at the Copacabana Palace Hotel in 1983. This year, the fair will cover some 80,000m2 of event space at the Riocentro from 31 August to 10 September. Over the years, the event has grown in popularity and became the third biggest event in the city, after New Year’s Eve at Copacabana and the Carnaval.

For book worms, the event provides an opportunity to meet their favourite authors, but also to participate in discussions and debates with writers and personalities from all over the world. At the same time, there are many original activities designed to promote reading in order to meet the expectations of the whole family. Rio Book Fair it’s not longer just a fair of books, but a place that you can get in touch with the literary world by many ways.

For example, at the Literary Café, visitors will be able to meet authors and discuss various topics such as politics, education, music, history or how to develop new generations of readers. At the same time, the Education Forum will be devoted to debates involving the sector’s professionals.

The Fair also caters for young readers, with a special kids area devoted to reading and games and fun, including short theatre shows. Events and activities have also been designed for teenagers to allow them to meet authors who write specifically about their generation.

On the professional side, the Fair will host a series of meetings addressing key themes in the literary world, such as new products and services in the industry and manufacturing methods. Once again the Bienal will host the Agent Business & Center, together with Frankfurt Book Fair, a B2B place dedicated to professionals meeting.

For the first time this year, “geek” and comic strip culture will also have a dedicated area at the Bienal do livro.  Some 200m2 of exhibition space will host activities or events regarding movies, television series, video games, board games and comic strips.

This year, the visitors will have the chance to meet Paula Hawkins (“The Girl on the train”), Karin Slaughter (“Blind sighted”), Abbi Glines (“Too far” collection) and Pepetella (“Mayombe”), who are all expected at the 2017 Bienal do livro.
