4 - Torino - Lingotto Fiere

Lingotto Fiere is a modern and functional exhibition centre, in a favourable location within the city of Torino, just a few minutes away from the ancient heart of the town. The original site was the historical FIAT factory, which the world famous architect Renzo Piano reconverted to the current post-industrial use in 1992.

DESTINATION TURIN

  • Torino is an ancient city, which was Italy's first capital, and is now a great industrial district. Each moment in history has left its mark on the city, creating a legacy of culture, architecture and monuments.

  • The Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games showed the world an unexpected city, surprising not only people who previously couldn't have found the city on a map, but even surprising those who were already familiar with it. The success of the Games was just the first, important step of an intense process of transformation that the city has been undergoing for a while now. In fact, since the 1990s Torino has been following a path that has transformed it from an industrial capital - a sector which continues to play a fundamental role in the territory's economy - into a pole of innovation, culture and improved quality of life.

  • Discover turin - lingotto fiere's website From material production to creation and sharing of knowledge: that is a process which requires new infrastructures - for education, shared knowledge, opportunities for young people, quality of the environment. These are the new ambitions of a city with an illustrious history, grand traditions and an extraordinary geographical position, for Torino is both one hour away from the mountains and from the sea and it is, in the words of the great architect Le Corbusier : "the city with the most beautiful natural position".

  • Torino is now looking to the future, to the important events already programmed for the upcoming years. While 2011 is on the horizon, the 150th anniversary of the Unity of Italy, the city has been elected 2008 World Design Capital and will host UIA XXIII World Congress of Architecture.
